About this deal

It uses the same clamp head as the Bike Hand YC-100BH floor stand (see above). But in this case it’s attached to a metal T bar with a square plate at the bottom, which you will need to bolt onto your work bench (bolts not included!). The micro-adjust clamp is really helpful as it allows you to easily operate it with one-hand. This is a huge bonus when you’re trying to minimize the amount of time you have to hold a heavy e-bike up in the air! For sure: steel components will be stronger and will last longer with intense use over time. But if you’re a weekend mechanic, you can be confident that the Bike Hand stand is built to last a long time!

Most, (but not all) repair stands can be made taller or shorter. This is important if you are very tall (but less so if you’re particularly small!). Ibera Bicycle Stand is, as you can probably tell from the pictures, a little different. This isn't what we would call a bike work stand. The model isn't designed for the frame. It will just be able to support the rear wheel. As you would imagine, it comes with its advantages and disadvantages compared to every other model here. The Topeak PrepStand Pro is certainly not the cheapest bicycle repair stand. But it’s probably the most stable. And it’s the only one with built in electronic scales! And it should also provide a more elegant user experience, which is important if you’re lifting bikes in and out of the stand every day.

Adjustable Limit Switch - For setting the preferred working height from 100 cm to 185 cm. Alternatively, it can be moved out of the way and the stand operated with the remote

There have been several times when working on an ebike that we needed to run the motor on the stand to fully diagnose and fix the ebike. So I would say, if you want something that’s a significant upgrade on the Bike Hand stand, in all respects, you probably need to spend twice as much. I used to be a mechanic and I know most mechanics choose this line of work because they love bikes and the culture. If we can make their workday a bit easier that makes us very happy. Some home-built solutions I encountered look awesome too, always love seeing people solving problems with their own skills. For one, it’s worth noting that if you use a clamp-on type stand with a carbon bike, only attach it to your seatpost, as other areas can be damaged by the forces exerted. However, on the plus side, they’re faster to load and often cheaper. So if you have a suitable post or wall (only into the stud on a dry wall!), then this could be a cost effective alternative to the workbench model. Do bear in mind that it won’t be height adjustable though, so it won’t be quite as versatile. The Worst Bike Stands Trying to lift a heavy e-bike to attach it to the clamping system of the repair stand can be cumbersome and a strain. You want something easy to use so you can minimize the amount of lifting that is required. He was heavily involved in the mountain bike boom of the late 1980s as a racer, team manager and race promoter, and that led to writing for Mountain Biking UK magazine shortly after its inception. He got the gig by phoning up the editor and telling him the magazine was rubbish and he could do better. Rather than telling him to get lost, MBUK editor Tym Manley called John’s bluff and the rest is history. When it comes to repair stands E-MTBs come with one big disadvantage: they’re heavy. Generally at least 10 kg heavier than any conventional bike. For obvious structural reasons repair stands are subjected to strong leverage forces and the additional weight of an E-MTB with its heavy battery and motor can become an issue with conventional repair-stands. The tubing has to be robust enough to cope with the extra load and the structural design capable of resisting stronger leverage forces. Finally all of the height- and angle- adjustment-clamps on the main head need to be strong enough to hold the bike in place and prevent it from twisting around or sliding down. This explains why our test features models with a certified load capacity of at least 25 kg. Our test bike weighs 23.5 kg.
