They are audibly budget speakers, but the bass is tight and the mids and top-end are crisp and correct. Although at higher volumes the sound quality suffers, these speakers perform quite well for listening to music, watching movies and playing games at medium volume. Verdict Not only are they great for producing music but they’re also ideal for gaming, watching movies and listening to your favourite songs.

The latest version of the OptImage wave guide has also been installed. Improving on the fantastic OptImage III, the OptImage IV waveguide gives amazing imaging and highly accurate, punchy sound reproduction. The opinion of this reviewer is similar to mine. The AV32 and AV42 models are not going to give the same quality as more expensive professional studio reference monitors. They do add some sound coloration that while pleasant to the ear may not be wanted for those seeking an actual true reference sound. However, all-in-all, the price point of the AV42 monitors is reasonable for what they offer. They are quite useful and represent an exceptional value for the money.
