My 14 month old granddaughter started manipulating the latches the minute she saw them, even though she is quite a bit younger than the recommended age of 3+. I have seen something like it on Pinterest and have always thought it would be a great acticity for a kid. One very similar to this with hinges and latches, and the other has light switches, door handles, a telephone and even an old crank from a washing machine of long ago :) Then residents love it! Dressing Board – had all the types of closures that we use for clothes (zippers, buttons, snaps, velcro, hook and eye, shoe strings, etc. They both loved it and it was large enough for both of them to play with it without fighting over it.

For example, you can start off with colors and counting and progress to opening/closing some latches to all latches.

As a mother, I love the fact that she focuses and works on it on her own diligently while talking to me. His 4-year old sister is also very interested in this toy and the children can each work on a latch while sharing the board. Overall, though, we are completely satisfied with it, and can tell how this toy will be one of her faves once she gets to an age where she has more dexterity and can understand how it works. Obviously since the board lays flat, the doors don't swing open but the doors blend together so my little one (I don't think) has even opened them.
