During lesson observations, I prefer to draw attention to what has worked, and then consider how these strategies can be strengthened and applied in other situations. But I think it's a really big opportunity, because these people see you the most. They've probably experienced your ways of working the most. They've probably seen you at your best and your worst, which is helpful. Hence why I always think these people are so important to your ability to keep improving, keep getting better. Once you’ve done a retrospective, help guide your team to be sure to actually focus on those things. You probably won’t see too much in the way of results for this first time through the process.

It makes sense that if you’re trying to get better you’re focusing on the thing that needs to get better. But that’s not how our brains work. Our brains can’t just stop a thing. It has to be replaced with a thing. So just telling somebody that something is wrong, telling yourself that something is wrong, doesn’t give you what to do with it.So I was thinking actually, when we're recording this podcast, it never always goes completely seamlessly, everybody; there's some sort of chat that gets cut out.
