About this deal

When new, the cotton sateen fabric is dull on one side and rather shiny on the other. Original field uniforms were assembled with either side facing out. Whether or not one was supposed to be on the outside is unknown. After some wear and washings the shine dissipates. As the two sides are fairly different in appearance, this can lead some people to assume that some uniforms are made from some other cloth. Towards the end of 1942 and due to numerous complaints about the existing combat uniform, the US Army started to develop a universal combat uniform. Identification flagswere generally the cotton/gauze flag for 82nd units in Market Garden, whereas the Oilcloth version was usually seen on 101st troops. This was cut down and pinned or sewn on or worn as a complete brassard. This was the same for the 17th Airborne during Operation Varsity. A two-piece light sage green herringbone twill (HBT) utility uniform, which replaced a previous blue denim one, also saw use in combat, especially in tropical environments where the wool uniforms were too heavy. Armored units still used wool riding breeches and wore high-lacing boots in some cases, and paratroopers were forced to use a general-issue HBT coverall with no real suitable footwear. The weapons used are the same as for the D-Day look, and include all the US armoury such as M1 Garand, M1 Carbines and both Thompson and M3 ‘Grease gun’ sub machine guns. Pictures have been seen of troopers using British Bren Guns, which adds an interesting variation to your late war US Paratrooper look, and will certainly get people talking. The choice of unit to portray after Normandy is far larger than for that assault as the airborne force was greatly expanded. It is important to decide early on which unit you are portraying, as each unit had a slightly different look. For example, an airborne reenactor friend has researched that: Collar & lapel size varies widely- some are slender, with sharp corners, while others would make Batman proud. My originals range from 2.25″ to 3.25″ at the lapel. How to use’ tag now has a small drawing added. Some makers print this tag on the lining by a transfer that is ironed on.

A new uniform, known as the OG-107 fatigue uniform, was first introduced in 1952. By the beginning of the Vietnam War, it had completely replaced the M-1943 uniform as the standard in the Army. Not only are these very warm, which helps for winter events, but they make the ‘Bastongne look’. A 1950s British or French greatcoat can be bought cheaply and modified, although reproductions are available. WW2 US Airborne Assaults

These garments are intended to be worn over multiple under-layers and so we make a 4" allowance on top of the wearer's chest size.

It’s hardly surprising, then, that it has – in some variation or other – featured in collections from just about every menswear designer in recent seasons, from Dior to Tom Ford, via streetwear brands the likes of Stussy and Supreme; in every colour and fabric too, from navy wool-cashmere to raw state ecru cotton. Usually they have a dark OD7 lining with the instructions printed on the fabric itself. A few still use OD3 lining and a white label, but it now has a small illustration on it. Other nations use a variety of random numbering methods where a number is allocated to represent a set height and chest/waist. The leg ties on M43 trousersalso varied. The ties for the 101st were usually OD7 (sometimes OD3) coloured web tape, while the 82nd used folded canvas leg ties.

The first four digit number i.e. 6080, refers to a height range of 1.60m to 1.80 metres tall. The second four digit number refers to the chest or waist size range, depending on the garment - in this case 80 - 90cm)

5 Style Tips For Field Jackets

The M43 uniform was being issued to troops in the ETO (European Theatre of Operations) and byJanuary 1945 it was being issued on mass to all American soldiers. The collar can be buttoned in an upwards position by a piece of cloth under the collar, it can be buttoned in two positions, depending on what type of clothing is worn underneath. The 370B is the most variable, likely as it was the first to be mass produced and there were near catastrophic production problems with the contractors documented in the NARA archives. Care: We recommend hand or machine wash in cold water and hang dry. I experimented with washing on one of these- hand wash cold and hang dry resulted in zero shrinkage whereas machine wash and a dryer = 1.5 - 2 inches loss in sleeve and body length. p-p means pit to pit - i.e. the garment is laid flat and we measure across the armpits and double that distance for full circumference.

This came into effect in the middle of the 370C production run, meaning some 370C’s are the less baggy cut, while others are the larger Pattern B.Helmet netslike the one pictured were virtually withdrawn or worn out by Market Garden, although they can be seen in some photos of 501st/101st units. These were mainly replaced by the small British net that was worn by 101st , 82nd and 17th A/B in Operation Varsity. The boot would have been waterproofed with Dubbing, although trials have recently shown that this wasn`t as effective as the designers had hoped. This led to thousands of cases of trench-foot reducing the combat strength of units. Most have peculiarly long epaulets- instead of ended at or just before the base of the collar, they overlap it. Several manufacturers actually place the button to secure them on the collar band. This appears to have been a misunderstanding in the assembly instructions. This uniform would standardise issue across all branches of the service. The uniform was based on a multi-layed approach, and would eventually consist of around twenty items.
