I have to admit MgM's ability to leave me with more questions than answers meant I was very upset when I reached the final page, horrified at the lengths Mordecai and Moira will go to for the protection of family and friends. He lives in Texas, with his stubborn wife, two kids, and a menagerie of fantastic creatures, including a moose-poodle, a vicious yorkie, and a giant prehistoric turtle. Traveling to Dunbar to discover the fate of her vanished father, Moira must face the darker aspects of her power. We won't talk about where he was when he wrote 'The Blacksmith's Son', but let's just assume he was probably supposed to be doing something else at the time. Thornbear got a higher rating from me only because it is slightly less annoying reading a male teenager than a female teenager.Being relatively lawless and free spirited were not particularly good traits to possess in a career focused on perfection, patient safety, and the letter-of-the-law.

The main characters are instantly endeared to you and his quirky sense of humour will have you laughing out loud at times.I finished this book in a little less than a week, and lately I have had very little time available to read.

The twists are great and unexpected for the most part, nothing is unreasonable or leaves you feeling jolted out of the world. Her biological mother’s ability allows her to tap into a great power, but that power is dangerous, and it can lead to darkness. I wanted to hate Moira, the Centyr protagonist of the title, and many times I was aghast at her actions/reactions to events. It turned out later that she was just telling him this because she knew that nothing made Michael more contrary than his never ending desire to prove her wrong. Having been a fan of the Mageborn saga from inception, I always look forward to the next installment and this one does not disappoint. He takes a well-loved character, who we've come to view as rather sweet, charming and sensible, and leads her into becoming a very dark, dangerous, and destructive force, while still engaging our empathy for her. Dialogue: I felt this was pretty solid in comparison to his other work, which is a bit better than average for most.

Some are resolved (filled in would be better choice, no plot is ever completely finished) in this book but where started in other books. From developing a world, exploring new and old powers and creating personalities, the author moves into the history of the family lines, their mistakes and the repercussions thereof. If you like fantasy, wizards, dragons and have a good sense of humor you will find yourself reading this books more than once.Moria is now one of my favorite characters with levels of depth previously unseen and a really interesting new look at the different types of mages within the world.
