About this deal

Troy Ealing and Liberty Jackman - an amalgamation of second and third generation characters in this story. Any sixteen-year-olds would expect trouble, but this is Northern Ireland 2018, where abortion is still illegal. Loved the final installment of the series, which yet again draws parallels with the real world with artfulness and nuance.

I just finished the last 2 books in the Noughts and Crosses series and I was right to wait for book 6 before reading book 5 because whew that cliffhanger at the end of book 5. With Endgame being the final book in this series, I was stuck in the position of really wanting to read on, find out what would happen next, and finish this series and wanting to savour every last word, and never finish the book!Endgame is the sixth (or ninth when you include novellas too) and final book in Malorie Blackman’s ground-breaking and bestselling Nought and Crosses series. This story skillfully and sensitively manages the emotional debate over the pro's and con's of babies and abortions, not always predictable, and very relatable. There were soooo many unanswered questions and throwaway lines that never got answered and it just pissed me off. I couldn’t really understand some of the characters - especially Tobey, I really couldn’t keep up with his ever-changing thought patterns and attitude.

I recognised the problems highlighted between chapters as very real and current which draws attention to the fact this is not all fiction and we live with these adversities day to day.Great performances all round, although not necessarily consistent with the previous audio book characterisations. What’s more, the character of Libby also explores the way in which history is taught in regard to race, and the issues of not teaching Black British history in schools. Having said this, it was reassuring to see Troy on the mend from the trauma of his kidnapping and losing his mother. The first Nought Prime Minister, Toney Durbridge, is about to go on trial for the murder of notorious gang lord, Dan Jeavons. The sense of change and fighting against a divided society is missing from this novel which I think is a shame, it was more of an unexplored undertone.

won the Young Telegraph/Gimme 5 Award - Malorie is the only author to have won this award twice - while Hacker also won the WH Smith Mind-Boggling Books Award in 1994. This picks up after the events of book five and much of the time is spent looking at exactly what happened to Dan. Endgame was a difficult book to read for two reasons: the trigger warnings listed at the top of this review, and knowing that this was the last Noughts and Crosses book that I would ever read, therefore I recommend approaching this series with caution if you have been affected by any of the trigger warnings listed at the top of my reviews. While the main bulk of the plot only really covers about 36-hours, a lot happens in that time with countless mysteries, twists and turns, action-packed moments and shocking revelations. In 2005 she was honoured with the Eleanor Farjeon Award in recognition of her contribution to children’s books, and in 2008 she received an OBE for her services to children’s literature. Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Josephine Langford reprise their roles as the tormented - and often antagonistic - lovers with many casting changes. In 2005 Malorie was honoured with the Eleanor Farjeon Award in recognition of her distinguished contribution to the world of children's books.
