About this deal

VIRGIN and the VIRGIN signature logo are registered trademarks of Virgin Enterprises Limited and are used under licence. Living on any coast has massive benefits: the air, the beaches, the forests that surround them, the rivers that flow into the ice-cold salty water.

Matty Matheson will take his culinary teachings to the next level by demonstrating how to cook four of these dishes in his 12-episode original YouTube series, titled Cookin' Somethin'. His no-nonsense approach to food makes these recipes practical enough for all, while his creativity will entice seasoned cooks.Matheson grew up in the less than picturesque town of Fort Erie, Ontario but Pat O’Rourke’s urban landscapes have a bleak magnificence to them. The recipes are more accessible than the first book, but still has enough odd ingredients or new skills to present challenges to the home cook. The recipes look amazing, it's got a lot of Matty's humour in it, and to top it off the book itself just feels really high quality. Even though Matty uses so much humor in his videos and has definitely cooked up cheeto mac n cheese and burgers, you can clearly tell he is an incredibly gifted cook. It'll be good to challenge ourselves and try some unique ones, but there are several we'll probably skip.

For the kind of people who want to cook super gourmet and eclectic recipes, this would be worth a try. I confess I had never heard of Matty Matheson before picking this book up, so all the biographical stuff that would probably interest fans of his TV shows had no interest for me, whatsoever. Matty Matheson is one of the most exciting and original voices to have emerged on the cookery scene in the last five years or so.Here is a recipe- and story-packed cookbook from Matty Matheson, star of Viceland’s It’s Suppertime and Dead Set On Life.

The photos are of great quality - it would make for a great table book if only for the pictures - the writing flows, and the recipes are easy to follow and understand. Nanny Matheson passed away when I was young, so we never really got to know her, but by all accounts, she was fun, smart, hardworking, and a great cook.

Contained in this cookbook are 12 recipes that I wanted to share with you while you’re out there in the world, figuring stuff out. From the ultimate breakfast sandwich to peanut butter instant noodles with a sesame fried egg, the recipes are tailored to the taste and needs of college life. Next, it covers comforting recipes like Littleneck Clam Orecchiette, Pho Ga, Double Beef Patty Melt with Gruyere and Molasses Bread, and Matty’s take on the ultimate Submarine sandwich. As amazing as the first book was, I felt like it missed an opportunity to provide some recipes that satiated people’s hunger with simple and easy to cook meals, not that any of the ones I attempted were insanely difficult unless it came down to ingredient availability.
