About this deal

I liked the majority of the stories included in this compilation, though I found "End of the Liner", "Runaway Blues", "The Completion", and "Final Course" to be nearer to my taste and preference. I’ve never sampled one of CJ Tudor’s books before but I've heard a lot of good things about them, not least from Stephen King himself who is an admirer.

I did like this because it was fun and the idea behind it was good as it shows the darker side of wanting more and is quite ambiguous, which is something I enjoy in stories. I’m Not Ted, in which everyone wrongly thinks the narrator is Ted, who seems to be living the narrator’s dream life. During this tough period, Tudor was working on a novel, but it seemed that the words were reluctant to appear on page, an elusiveness that fatigued and exasperated her. It also put me in mind of the scene-setting introduction that Alfred Hitchcock used to provide in "Alfred Hitchcock presents" television series.

Tudor engineered a consistent set of nearly a dozen terse tales that keeps the reader engaged throughout the course of the book.

Dust – Villa de las Almas Perdidas in Gran Canaria is the place that Olivia has chosen to holiday to. Being one of the longer stories in this collection, it went into more detail and we actually saw some character development. Tudor’s novels are widely acclaimed for their dark, twisty suspense plots, but with A Sliver of Darkness, she pulls us even further into her dizzying imagination. The Block reminded me of Stranger Things but that could be I was reading as my husband was watching it?These eleven twisted tales of the macabre from the bestselling author of The Chalk Man are your perfect companions as the nights draw in. I also enjoyed each of the different narrators, and I would highly recommend listening to the book even if it's just to hear Tudor. A pretty impressive first anthology from CJ Tudor, eleven stories (not sure why the blurb for the above cover says ten 🤔), and in my opinion, no duds, I was sorry when it ended! Considering all the world has been through over the past 3-years, I don't think it is surprising that this is the type of creativity Tudor felt like expressing.

Gloria where a cold-hearted killer encounters a strange young girl at a motorway service station with unexpected consequences . I do think this will be a big hit with most people and there are a wide variety to horrors to please the reader who likes them. Tudor gave an introduction of how the story initiated in her clever mind and I appreciated learning how a thought became a conception and then a process to writing a story. She came up with a plan that her editors agreed to-scrap the book she wrote and instead publish this collection of short stories.I have enjoyed all of her books and couldn’t wait to get my hands on her new collection of short stories.
