About this deal

Similarly the eponymous amber spyglass of the third novel, associated with Malone, is also largely absent. The original remark in Catholic Herald (which was "there are numerous candidates that seem to me to be far more worthy of the bonfire than Harry Potter") was written in the context of parents in South Carolina pressing their Board of Education to ban the Harry Potter books. Adapted with love and precision by Nicholas Wright who has been daring enough to make the judicious cuts necessary to create a workable piece of theatre out of the at-times-sprawling works of literature that form Pullman’s trilogy, the story that is told here is strong and cohesive and told with a sensitive clarity (although I can’t be sure how clear it actually is to anyone who hasn’t read the novels, truth be told).

Michael Legge’s Will was a more different interpretation to what I was expecting though, more of a miseryguts which made his own vulnerability a bit more touching. His Dark Materials is a play written by Nicholas Wright, adapted from the eponymous trilogy of novels. In 2020 the second series of His Dark Materials began streaming on BBC One in the United Kingdom on 8 November and on HBO Max in the United States on 16 November. Philip Pullman sets The Book of Dust – La Belle Sauvage twelve years before his epic His Dark Materials trilogy.Every conceivable stage trick was employed; 2 revolving stages; the infamous National drum revolve, video projections and live action video relays.

The play follows the same plot as the books - a story of the coming of age of two children, Will Parry and Lyra Belacqua and their adventures as they wander through a series of parallel universes against a backdrop of epic events. Travel between the worlds with Lyra and Will in this epic adaptation of Philip Pullman's famous trilogy: Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. The novels have won a number of awards, including the Carnegie Medal in 1995 for Northern Lights and the 2001 Whitbread Book of the Year for The Amber Spyglass. Lyra loses her ability to intuitively read the alethiometer and determines to learn how to use her conscious mind to achieve the same effect. His Dark Materials is spread over two plays; you can watch parts 1 and 2 at separate performances or see both on a Saturday.
