About this deal

Others view Liz as a bit unconventional, her dress sense and her love of the romantic comedies – Michael only really notices Liz when she dresses differently and seems to mostly still view her as the child in the street who made people perform in plays. Now that he’s back in town, Liz will do whatever it takes to get on his radar - and maybe snag him as a prom date - even befriend Wes Bennet. She needs an ‘in’ with Michael though and realises that she’s going to have to use her annoying neighbour Wes. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Liz’s mother died a few years ago and one of the things that I think this book does really well, was her grief.

I felt closer to my mother when I watched them; it felt like a tiny piece of her was there, watching beside me. Selby’s story of growing up along the decaying Coney Island boardwalk and hitting rock bottom on heroin is based in part on the author’s life. I honestly don’t think a book has ever made me smile so much; I’m sure I was grinning from ear to ear pretty much the entire time I was reading . Great debut novel with some very original elements that are unique from other YA novels of the same trope. I would definitely recommend you listen to this book, it is a easy listen, predictable but in a comfy way and the story is complex enough to stay with you.She might pretend to be nice, but for as long as I could remember, she’d given me crusty-weird looks.

The romance is absolutely swoon worthy, Wes and Liz's relationship will have you laughing and on the verge of tears throughout the whole book. The annoyingly attractive next-door neighbour might seem like a prime candidate for romantic comedy fantasies, but Wes has only been a pain in Liz’s butt since they were kids. Los Angeles was dark, dirty, awash in neon and rain, crammed with building-sized moving advertisements, multicultural, and seething with a neglected underclass. You would think that her next-door neighbor would be a prince candidate for her romantic comedy fantasies, but Wes has only proven himself to be a pain in the butt, ever since they were little. So instead of repeating the familiar refrain of “the book was better,” here are a handful of times where the cinematic choices actually elevated what was on the page.

A perfectly turned phrase can be just as emotional as a beautifully framed shot in the right hands, and sometimes a filmmaker’s choices perfectly align with the author’s sensibility, bringing fan fave characters to vivid life. It was interesting to see some of the schemes talked about in these films playing out in the book itself. And as they continue to grow closer, she must re-examine everything she thought she knew about love-and rethink her own ideas of what Happily Ever After should look like. But through late night talks in the back yard, stolen glances and slips in time where it feels like Wes’s annoying habits aren’t staying all that annoying, Liz sees something else: a future she didn’t see written in her script. So when her old neighbour and long-time crush, Michael, moves back to town after being away for a while, she’s besotted again. Additionally, Dick was so skeptical and fearful of a robotic future, he missed the real tantalizing horror found in Scott’s film: What if a humanity that invents androids to be glorified slave labor has become crueler and less human than the robots they hunt? Again, as I continued listening to the book I realized how this was (to my understanding) all part of the idea of the story and the growth and maturing we see the female character go through.

The soft, worn-in feel of his shirt under my palms, the breadth of his shoulders, the golden skin of his neck, scant centimeters away from my face as I hugged him back. We’re well aware that Stephen King despises Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of one of his most personal novels. For a retro one that goes back to the Golden Age of Hollywood, it seems fitting to include To Have and Have Not since the film was borne out of a 10-day fishing trip between director Howard Hawks and author Ernest Hemingway.
