About this deal

What makes this book special is the thoughtful manner of Moyes' characterizations and the believability of the situation. There were a lot of life skills Isabel was just learning, and I like that the author took the time to show that. The secondary characters in this book (many of them with occasional points of view,) were wonderful to read. I found myself almost pulling my hair out in frustration with her merely accepting his behaviour and thought their toxic marriage brought a sinister edge to the novel, something I’ve never seen before in a Jojo Moyes book.

A personagem principal, principalmente, não apresenta nenhum traço marcante de personalidade, que a torne inesquecível ou digna da mais tênue lembrança na memória do leitor. If you like this book, you might also enjoy Blue Slipper Bay by Wendy K Harris, or Uphill All the Way by Sue Moorcroft. On the other hand: Matt was truly vindictive, devious, obsessive character who does anything in his power to take control of the house! She's also obsessed with the memory of her recently deceased husband Laurent, whom she loved with an abiding passion. Die Charakteren sind ebenfalls eher schwarz - weiß gezeichnet, mit wenig Tiefgang und bleiben an der Oberfläche ihrer Darstellung.Given I live in a rural area and have done my share of hunting (bird more than beast), that part wouldn't bother me as long as it wasn't gratuitous. I think Moyes’ fans will lap it up and it will hopefully bring a lot more new readers to her fan base.

Fortunately, she has been left property by a distant uncle and moves away to 'The Spanish House' in rural Norfolk. Kitty makes friends in the village and becomes a more normal teenager, and Thierry is befriended by the mysterious Byron, who has a dark secret that only Matt seems to know about.Empathized with the characters - saw all sides of the situations for all the Age groups in the narrative. She had a chance of a normal relationship and some happiness, but she threw it away so she could spend the rest of her life being Matt's doormat, it was such a depressing ending.

I thought the premise had potential, but then I realized I have been here before with so many other stories like this, so, I immediately found myself bored.I normally take to one or more of her characters, especially the main players, however, I didn't find this the case in this story. On a side note, many thanks to the author for giving me a fit of giggles when Byron Firth emerges all wet and dripping from a lake – wonder where her inspiration for that scene lay? Isabel Delancey’s husband Laurent is killed in a car crash and for the first time in her life she has to provide both emotionally and financially for their two children, the teenage Kitty and her younger brother Thierry.

Her husband had always dealt with the financial side of things and the children were looked after by a nanny so when he dies her world all but implodes. But when her husband dies suddenly, leaving her with a mountain of debt, she and her two children are forced to abandon their home and move to a crumbling pile in the country. First of all, the house is a complete mess, almost as if it is falling apart from the inside outwards and as I’m sure you can imagine, Isabel is no Miss DIY! knight in shining armour, Byron Firth who works for Matt but knows exactly what kind of man he is and attempts to help Isabel through the mess she finds herself in.
