Bicycling with Butterflies is, in my opinion, simply the best book about adventure bicycling ever: gloves on the handlebars, feet on the pedals, bum on the saddle. As the Pacific Ocean heats up, evaporation increases, causing brewing storms to carry more and more moisture.

Many other things than you have, do, and will use your property, and likewise what you do affects things well beyond those lines. Though people gasped when I told them what I was doing, it seemed to me that the monarchs, with their unburdened wings, deserved the accolades. Shivering, like diverting blood from extremities and increasing metabolism, helps endothermic animals maintain a warmer temperature in the cold. At night, trunks tend to be an average of two and a half degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the surrounding ambient night temperature.As temperatures drop, ectothermic monarchs become unable to move and can’t seek out microclimates, such as tree trunks. Half lost at dusk, trying to avoid the main highway, I wandered through a partially built housing complex.

We both chuckled despite the fact that my joke, “I’m only breathing hard because I want to,” wasn’t that funny.S. State Department has recently issued a “Do Not Travel” advisory for Michoacan due to crime and kidnapping of tourists. I studied monarchs for two years in college, so I was immediately drawn to this book and what it stands for. Full of fascinating details about monarch butterflies and how they are slowly losing the plants and land necessary to make the migration possible as well as insightful social commentary.

On his belly, he gently prodded a small purple plant emerging along the trail—an Earth inhabitant he deemed worthy of examination.But these complaints are a bit picky and didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of this book. However, I learned more about butterflies than I could ever care to know, and I never grasped the reason for Sara’s dedication to the butterflies. You experience the highs and lows of the trip as you see it through her eyes and through the eyes of the Monarchs.
