About this deal

Nevertheless it did keep my reading to the end but nevertheless I enjoyed the novel and I will hopefully be reading some more of Cole’s works for my blog in the future.

As ‘predictable’ she couldn’t handle being a woman in a mans world and needed a man to look after her and save the day. I did find many similarities in this novel to Betrayal with the character of Aiden being cut from the same cloth as Michael but in this novel I found it easier to sympathise with both Maura and Michael, though both characters are at times incredibly violent and terrifying their softer sides make them far more rounded and complex characters. I enjoyed the setting, the "rags to riches" narrative, the romance elements, and the focus on the dynamics of an entire family (the Ryans). No one thinks a seventeen-year-old girl can take on the hard men of London’s gangland, but it’s a mistake to underestimate Maura Ryan: she’s tough, clever and beautiful – which makes her one very dangerous lady. The plot covers the exploits of the Ryan family up to the mid-1980s, culminating in the death of Michael Ryan and the arrest of Maura. When I was a teenager, but I still greatly think of this book and I'll never read it again, because I want to keep it perfect in my memory just as well as I keep Diogenes Alejandro Xenos (Dax) from Robbins' 'The Adventures' untouched in my childhood memories. The police are determined to put away Maura once and for all – and not everyone in the family think that’s such a bad idea. She continues to smash sales records with each of her books, which have sold thirteen million copies. Cole also provides so much social commentary on 1950s and 1960s culture, in particular choice on abortion and the consequences of arranging a marriage on the foundation of pregnancy in the characters of Roy and Janine.

The books featured on this site are aimed primarily at readers aged 13 or above and therefore you must be 13 years or over to sign up to our newsletter. The books themes of corruption, consumerism and excess I found fascinating as though I grew up in the 1990s and 2000s after the books events, I had heard about the culture of greed and excess in the 1980s during the Thatcher era and in this book it is shown just how dark it really is, with the Ryans being directly involved with government officials right the way up to the top echelons of power. Although initially shielded from the going ons of the Ryan brothers, she enters into the family business as they attempt to rule the East End.Our Non-Fiction Range includes: Academic, Photography, Audio books, Business, Cook Books, Craft Books, Health and Fitness Books, Mind, Body, Spirit (Tarot).

Headed and dominated by their oldest brother, who is also unashamedly gay, their family cuts a swathe through London as their reach and power grows. I will read one of Cole's recent novels to see whether her youth when writing Dangerous Lady explains some of the weaknesses - I am just amazed (based on reading Dangerous Lady) how massively successful Cole's novels are.p>The data controller is Headline Publishing Group Limited. Martina Cole's extraordinary first novel introduced a totally original genre of thriller, paving the way for her multiple number 1 bestsellers. All finished an I've got to say that I have never related to anything as much as I had to the main character, Maura.

The only real negative is I found Cole’s use of foreboding a bit too obvious and forefront in the earlier chapters as there is quite a few chapters which end saying a character will live to regret what they have done. The 'Family' as they are seem 'real' and you can think of yourself as being in the thick of all the incidents that occur. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. For me it was far too much romance and ‘Eastenders like drama’ for it to be classed as crime fiction. This is the first book about Maura Ryan, the youngest child in an impoverished Irish family whose fortunes improve when the eldest, Michael, becomes London's king of the underworld.Anyway one day when she was at work I snuck into her room to read about it and came across my first F-Bomb in print which makes me laugh when I think about it today and the amount of bad language we see these days in print and on TV. No one thinks a seventeen year old girl can take on the hard men of London's gangland, but its a mistake to underestimate Maura Ryan: she's tough, clever and beautiful - and she's determined that nothing will stand in her way. When it comes to the crunch, Maura has to face the pain of lost love in her past - and the dangerous lady discovers her heart is not made entirely of stone. I only read to the end to see if I was missing something (no) and did it make me think - not at all.
