About this deal

The book has caused me to match what tasks I need to accomplish with the mental state that Kadavy describes. David is a bit narcicistic self obssesed control freak (at least a little bit) with his ego and reason is to create a legacy in books (and other creative work).

It is about living in an unstructured environment, where valuable ideas spring from novel connections: the intriguing marketing plan that catapults your company forward, writing a book worth reading, or designing a garden that brings peace and beauty to your property. A well-managed mind allows for clear and rational decision-making, unclouded by stress or distractions. Your amygdala always wants you take the “safe” route, and will stifle your creativity, so you have to be wary of its power. Mindful prioritization involves identifying tasks that align with long-term objectives and focusing energy on them, rather than getting lost in low-impact activities. I would think that in the development of the book he’d look for studies and examples in his podcast guests at least. We can maximize quality ideas by wisely stewarding our mental states: prompting the right state for our work and staying in that state as long as possible. There's a lot of experiments to "put yourself in the correct mental state" for the work you wish to accomplish. It's interesting how whatever you focus on in an attempt to maximize it has a tendency to slip away, as Viktor Frankl would say. In his book, Mind Management, Not Time Management, David Kadavy makes the case that time is not the real problem here.

This means that each time you perform a thought or action, you make it easier for your brain to reproduce that thought or action. If any of this strikes a chord, or you are seeking some ideas to prompt a state of flow, or you just like reading about productivity styles (which if you've made it this far, is probably you! But I didn't plan that a co-worker would identify a problem that they wanted my help to solve, requiring 35 minutes of listening intently and talking through various dimensions of the problem. I liked this book a lot, not only because he takes things like the wonderful Getting Things Done and Atomic Habits and Deep Work and recent neurobiology to the next level, but he also weaves the wisdom of great creators together with his own hard won lessons on what works and what doesn't.In conclusion, mind management offers a transformative approach to achieving success by harnessing the power of the mind. The main insights in this book are how we should think of creative tasks around the kind of mood we have to be in to tackle them, and then the author's classification of these task-moods and his ideas of schedules following a rough task-mood pattern, and scheduling the right tasks for the right moods. This technique aligns the mind with success and encourages proactive behaviors that lead to goal attainment. However, using our time well is only a part of the equation, the other part is ensuring that our minds are able to do their best work within that time, and that different creative activities require a variety of environmental optimizations. I'm yet to really integrate even this single piece of advice into my workflow, but it's been helpful just to know there are multiple types of activities, not lump everything into "work".

To give you a sense of how these mental states operate on us, let’s assume that I want to create a presentation to propose a new strategy for my company. I should add that these criticisms are better directed broadly to the genre of productivity books, and take aim also at readers’ expectations. Synthesizing many core ideas from other productivity books (as a lot of my favorite nonfiction books nowadays do) as well as Kadavy's own insights, this is the book I needed to form a more effective writing practice. No funcionamos igual a lo largo del día, y cada persona tiene sus picos mentales en distintos momentos del día. However, after conversation about the topics and trying a few of the principles my impressions have changed.
