Its built-in speakers are pretty good– They’ve got a surprising amount of upper-end bass, and go pretty loud, good enough for practice, small home parties, and even monitoring when playing out (say in a bar or lounge) The Denon DJ SC Live 4 and SC Live 2 are interesting additions to the Denon DJ range. Smartly, these units appear to indicate that Denon DJ wants to be the serious hobby DJ brand as well as a pro DJ choice, and coming in cheaper rather than more expensive than the existing gear seems a smart decision in the current economic circumstances.Although not exclusively aimed at beginners, The SC Live’s simple and effective execution of advanced functions will appeal to aspiring DJs wanting to get used to club kit. If you’re reading this, it's because you want to know which is better, what’s the difference or should I upgrade my Denon Prime 4 to the new SC Live 4. There has also been a colour refresh – gone is the abundance of green from the Prime 4 and Prime 2, with a more subtle white, blue and orange light scheme. The next big difference is the mic section. Without question, the Prime 4 has a more elaborate mic section with 2 dedicated mic inputs with EQ and talkover. This makes it ideal for the “working” DJ doing more mobile work. The SC Live 4 has 2 mic inputs, with the first mic input having talkover but no EQ or dedicated reverb. The second mic input just has a level control, on / off switch and is switchable to an AUX input. Both mic channels on the SC Live 4 have 3 band EQ settings in the settings menu, not ideal for EQ’ing on the fly but better than nothing!The powerful, built-in speakers offer the perfect sound solution for livestreaming, practicing, content creation, and personal monitoring during live shows. Some users have reported that the driver for the SC Live 4 and SC Live 2 will not complete installation. The driver installation will proceed to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable program, but will not proceed past this. You may notice the installer flash on the screen only briefly. Creating ambience on a live stream or at a live event has now been made effortless! Denon DJ has announced a new Engine DJ software update with version 2.4. The latest update brings some new key features and improvements to the Operating System (OS) and Desktop. The Prime 4 is not only much better built in metal, but it has a tilting, superior 10″ screen, bigger pads, better microphone channels and output options, standalone mixer capability, and more extensive FX. It’s a more “pro” choice in every way. However, its jogwheels are slightly smaller, it has no built-in speakers, and it does follow a more conventional “controller” layout as opposed to the club layout of the SC Live units – so if you like the idea of the speakers, don’t think you’ll miss any of the extra features, and you actually like the idea of having a more club-standard mixer layout, the Denon DJ SC Live 4 may actually be the better choice out of the two.
