About this deal

Cadbury's Creme Egg Easter Egg is a staple, and it's clear to see why (Image: Corey Bedford/LeicestershireLive) Important note: In 2022 the Mini Eggs Bar was gluten free, but now (2023) it has a 'may contain' warning and is NOT suitable for people with coeliac disease) Cadbury and Galaxy chocolate Easter eggs compared to supermarket offerings from Asda, Aldi, Lidl and M&S (Image: Laura Nightingale) 9. Sainsbury's Marks and Spencer has a brilliant range of Easter treats for adults and children (Image: Laura Nightingale) 4. Lidl If you're going out of your way to buy a Galaxy Easter Egg, personally I think it's only justified that you expect the chocolate egg to be made from Galaxy, not the same plain, underwhelming chocolate you get in all other Mars Inc Easter eggs. I was really disappointed because I had high hopes for this egg, and then I realised I'd bought an Easter Egg pretty much identical to the last, give or take the chocolate that comes with it.

It had scrumptious crunchy bits and was ever so moreish. The German retailer also sells dark chocolate and caramel, and white chocolate and raspberry ripple flavoured eggs too. I've broken this blog post into two sections for ease: Gluten Free Easter Eggsand Gluten and Dairy Free Easter Eggs. Most plain chocolate eggs are free from gluten but sadly some have 'may contain' warnings which mean they are not coeliac-safe.Aldi's ripple egg looked very fancy. Made from Moser Roth Belgian Milk Chocolate and Caramelised Biscuit, it tasted absolutely delicious. The shell was gorgeous to look at, and even better to taste. I headed down to Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Marks and Spencer and Asda to see what they had to offer and whether they could compete with the famous chocolate brands this Easter. It's fair to say I was surprised. Some of the confectionery from the budget supermarkets in particular were especially delicious. 10. Last place: Kit Kat Chunky Easter is here, and you know what that means, it's time to choose a chocolate egg from the colourful and alluring shop displays. Of course, everyone has their own personal preferences, but with so many on offer it can be difficult to work out which taste best or represent the best value for money.

The Kitkat bunnies are quite nice, too. The chocolate is nice, like the egg, with small pieces of wafer inside them. Would I rather have actual Kitkats in the Easter Egg? Of course. But it's a nice addition that makes it feel more like an Easter egg. Also, Easter eggs sometimes feature other bits and bobs such as biscuit or wafer pieces which will contain gluten. You may find one size Easter egg from a brand is gluten free, while a different size has a 'may contain' warning. Galaxy chocolate with crunchy caramel rolled in rose gold A hollow milk chocolate egg with Galaxy enchanted eggs Suitable for vegetarians

So, I was given the task of buying some of the biggest names on our shelves, giving them a nibble and ranking them. I bought a Cadbury Creme Egg Easter Egg, a Maltesers Teasers Easter Egg, a Galaxy Enchanted Eggs Easter Egg, and a KitKat Easter Egg. Hollow Egg Sugar, Skimmed 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Powder, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Palm Fat, 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Fat, LACTOSE, Whey Permeate (from 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀), Emulsifier (π’π¨π²πš Lecithin), Vanilla Extract, 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Chocolate contains 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Solids 14% minimum and Cocoa Solids 25% minimum, 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Chocolate contains Vegetable Fats in addition to Cocoa Butter Galaxy Enchanted 𝐄𝐠𝐠𝐬 Sugar, Skimmed 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Powder, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Palm fat, 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Fat, LACTOSE, Whey Permeate (from 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀), Emulsifiers (π’π¨π²πš Lecithin), Starch, Glazing Agent (Maize Protein), Colour (Iron Oxides and Hydroxides), Raising Agent (E500) Natural Flavouring Vanilla Extract, 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Chocolate contains 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Solids 14% minimum and Cocoa Solids 25% minimum, 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐀 Chocolate contains Vegetable Fats in addition to Cocoa Butter Getting into the taste, the chocolate tasted good, it had a bit more of a snap to it than the Cadbury chocolate egg, but had a good sweetness to it. It did feel like it was missing something compared with the Cadbury egg, though. The Colin the Caterpillar Easter egg is perfect for kids. Wrapped in florescent green foil, the large egg was super creamy and smooth. Plus it came with a large bag of white chocolate mini Colin faces. All of the Easter Eggs in this section of guide, at the time of writing, are gluten free, dairy free and safe for people with coeliac disease.Cadbury is the classic staple when it comes to Easter Eggs. However, Mars and NestlΓ© also put out plenty of options for families to consider.

Dairy Fine Mini Eggs Chunky Bar - 225g (a great alternative to the Cadbury's Mini Eggs Bar which is now a 'may contain' for gluten) Gone have the days where the option was simply white, milk or dark chocolate. Now you can buy everything from salted caramel, honeycomb and popping candy, to marble, pink and dairy free eggs. Each of the two creme eggs come to 177 calories, which comes to an overall amount of 1,174 calories per box. Obviously, this isn't to say that you should avoid eating chocolate this Easter weekend, but it's always good to have it as part of a balanced diet. I'd still give it a solid 7/10, just for presentation of the interior, the better value for money, and the chocolate on offer was still nice enough and enjoyable. Galaxy Enchanted Eggs
