About this deal

Power. Strength. I could never be afraid again. I could make myself the predator instead of the prey, the hunter instead of the hunted, the ruler instead of the subject. I could make myself a monster to fear. I could make myself something to remember, instead of another fading mortal life to forget.” The relationship dynamics in this book are so layered and complex. The relationship between Victor and Oraya is so heart wrenching. I felt so much for her struggling with her feelings for him. Rhain and Oraya are just unmatched. The banter, the push and pull and the chemistry is next level good. I am totally in love with both of them, a new favorite duo for me absolutely. i love you all. you're doing the lord's work and i am proud to find myself agreeing with you in many a situation. I like that she is BA, I like their explosive 💥 consummation, I like the warrior man Raihn obviously is by the time of the book’s denouement, I like her awesome fighting spirit. I like that she is a wildcat. I like that her fighting heart is rich with tenderness and compassion. But she is also completely unpredictable. Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father's crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

my only complaint is that i wish we had a little info dumping early on. weird to ask for, but i wanted to better understand the reason for the Hiaj/Rishan conflict. i get that bloodthirsty power thirsty beasts can just be mean to be mean but i think it would have helped me to understand the stakes more if we knew more about the differences between factions/species. Oraya was raised in this dark and vicious world, surrounded by predators, and because of her unusual upbringing, she does not consider herself fully human, but she also knows that she is not a vampire. She falls somewhere in-between the two groups. I said that she is ruthless and good at killing but we can also see a softer side of her that emerges as she spends more time with vampires that are not evil and trying to kill her, and as she spends time just mingling with humans instead of trying to protect them from afar. She comes to realize that she is human just as they are, despite what she or Vincent might think, and that all the training and brutality in the world will not change that fact. He smelled like the sky—he tasted like falling. His lips met mine like he’d been waiting his entire life for this kiss and had known exactly what he would do when he got it.Well he is a morally grey vampire king who kills people and is very protective of his daughter Oraya. I loved how he protected Oraya for all these years and he made her strong and brave. He hid so many things from her and that betrayal was just too much for me. But I still feel like he deserves better and I didn't get much of his story. He may be looked like a villain to all others but he always had a soft spot for his little serpant.

He did not fear my darkness, nor pity my compassion. And the truth was, the idea of dying without knowing him completely was torturous." there was this scene between oraya and raihn at 70%, which was good but hello?? you're telling me i had to wait that long to just feel a tiny weeny bitty spark? i needed more of the banter that we saw so early on & also, it bothered me so much how often he said "there she is"🧍🏽‍♀️ like, okay.. no need to mention it every single time He was not the physically strongest vampire. He was not the fiercest warrior nor the wisest sage. But they said he was blessed by the goddess Nyaxia herself, and anyone who had ever met him would swear it to be true. Power seeped from his every pore, and death stained his every breath. For me, Vincent was that person. Even when I had no one else, I had him, and I knew beyond any doubt in this world or the next that he would do literally anything for me. But there's no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone – but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.oraya is a strong character, she is badass and i love her. but in said trials, she was saved so many times last minute by raihn and it made her seem week and it annoyed the hell out of me the line between anger and sadness is so thin. i had learned that fear can become rage, but rage can so easily shatter into devastation. the fractures spiderwebbed across my heart.'

I came to the horrifying realization that I would never be able to carve Raihn from my heart. He had embedded too deep. Roots through stone.'

Customer reviews

I wanted him to wake up from death and be like “I wish for Oraya to be my coriatae” likeeeeeee??? Imagine how that would’ve been such a pretty ending ???! BAM. Oraya is vampire and immortal. BAM. Vincent would be alive. Slap in some Vincent x Raihn war scene where they hug it out. then Raihn becomes his son in law likeeeee cmon. Add a couple chapters of bonding time and we’re golden! Everyone’s happy!! Carissa u really missed out on this smh.

This book was recommended to me by my friends so I went in blind (I didn’t even read the blurb) and they did not steer me wrong!! the world building was a bit atrocious. i don't understand the beef with the bloodborn. could have easily been explained better. We’re thrilled to share the cover of Carissa Broadbent’s The Serpent and the Wings of Night, the start of a new series filled with heart-wrenching romance, dark magic, and bloodthirsty intrigue—forthcoming December 5, 2023 from Bramble. One honest thing. The most terrible honest thing of all was that with Raihn, it was all honest- it always had been. He saw too much of me. Understood every complexity and senseless duality. I was honest even when I didn’t mean to be. He did not fear my darkness, nor pity my compassion.' I wasn't that much into vampire stories, but honestly? This book got me hooked and now I am all in whenever I see that a book has vampires in it.I loved the allies to lovers and the slow burn was impeccable and the moment they got together was just😩🔥 *ahem**ahem* Chapter 38 *ahem**ahem* I let it spill out through my mouth and my eyes and my fingers and the tips of my hair. I let it erupt all the way to the sky— past the stars, the moon, reaching for Nyaxia herself. In summary the things I enjoyed most about this book was the ‘Vampire-ology’ and unpredictability of that ending although the MC’s survival was probably assured – although not in this way. I confess to loving any story about vampires whether it be ‘Fantasy’ or ‘Horror’, and this was such an exhilarating and captivating read. An addictive story of betrayal, love, ambition, friendships and ultimately survival.
