About this deal

Originally named for trumpet player Clyde McCoy due to his iconic “wah” sound, the Vox McCoy wah pedal was created in 1967. Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, among other famous guitarists, used it extensively. Fulltone took this concept into the modern age and made their Clyde wah pedal series. Pros All in all, it’s not a great choice for people who want versatility. It is designed with the hot pots potentiometer, which helps create the wah sound, and comes with a one-year warranty.

Riis, Bjørn (26 October 2009). "Echoes "seagull" effect tutorial". Gilmourish . Retrieved 6 April 2017. When the budget is not an influencing factor when it comes to selection, then our Premium Choice is where you should be looking. The Behringer HB01 Hellbabe pedal can be used with guitar or bass, making it even more versatile and unique. The frequency range of the wah sound goes from 250 to 440 hertz, so you can get a lot of different tones out of this pedal. There’s also a 15db gain if you find that your guitar volume is too quiet once you’ve bypassed the pedal. If you're keen on saving pedalboard space, you may prefer a combined wah and volume pedals, as these offer both types of effects in a single pedal. The Hotone Soul Press is a prime example of this kind of combi pedal. Others are darker, meaning that even toe-down they are smoother in sound. The range of boost and the centre frequency of the filter differs too. For instance, the Vox V847 and Cry Baby have a comparable range, but the Cry Baby attenuates low frequency harmonics much more aggressively, making for a different voice.

The Standard and the Deluxe models are made from genuine 1960s vintage parts. Many of their components are built by hand and are designed with the original Vox Clyde wah pedal in mind. The custom-made inductors are encased in MuMetal to prevent hum. The LED’s on the side provide a clear indication of the selected mode, whilst another LED signals the on and off mode. The frequency range of the wah (frequencies in which the wah can be varied) has been set lower, with the gain boosted and the Q-value (the sharpness of the wah’s peak) adjusted to deliver a powerful sound with a low center of gravity. To cut right to the chase, a Wah pedal basically changes the tone of your guitar's signal. As the treadle or pedal is depressed by the guitarist in a downward motion it changes the guitar tone from more of a bass tone, to treble, with an edge.It then featured prominently in other hit songs from the likes of Toto, Guns ‘n Roses, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Metallica, and continues to make waves in the music industry today. What is a Wah Pedal? The movement of the treadle allows the guitarist to move the frequency of the resonant peak up and down and with that, the sound is altered. The effect has been compared to that of a human voice or a trumpet ( see the top 10 trumpets for students here). Sometimes bigger is not always better, as proven by this Dunlop Cry Baby Mini Wah effects pedal, a scaled-down take on their original Cry Baby, which is considered to have the best wah pedal sound out there. The key to the sound of the classic wah pedal from the 60s is the use of Fasel inductors, giving it its rich, smooth tone. Around since the ‘60s, the legendary Vox wah pedal has been a popular choice among players for decades — with its simple no-frills design and iconic tone. The Jim Dunlop Cry Baby series is also favoured by many, encompassing a bunch of signature wah pedals from influential players including Slash, Tom Morello and John Petrucci alongside its standard lineup. Mini wah pedals have taken the market by storm in recent years, with their compact footprint saving precious pedalboard real-estate! In addition to superb craftsmanship and quiet electronics, you can control your volume and tone with the booster/buffer. The buffer keeps your fuzz tones full, so you can avoid the thin treble sound you sometimes get, and the booster keeps you from losing volume when using the pedal.
