About this deal

You can’t really ‘extend’ the lifespan of your Grayl filters but you can make sure they reach the150L mark before they need to be replaced. These top tips will help you get the most out of your filters and apply for any water bottle with a filter, not just Grayl bottles! The activated carbon absorbs chemicals, heavy metals, flavours and odours to ensure your water is safe and tastes fresh! Compact and ridiculously easy-to-use requires zero setup and makes clean purified drinking water in 10 seconds (3L/min). You get long-lasting performance from the Grayl UltraPress, too – the filter is designed to last for 300 uses, although this depends on the number of contaminants in your water source.

The other slight differences are in the design. The Ultrapress dropped the cap leash for weight reasons, and it has a slightly smaller (albeit 90-degree adjustable) carry handle. Testing the GRAYL Geopress vs. Ultrapress Testing Standards: Independently tested by a certified laboratory to meet or exceed NSF/ANSI protocols 42 and 53 for sediment, pathogen and chemical removal; meets the EPA Guide Standard and Protocol for testing microbiological water purifiers.

GRAYL Ultrapress Review

RiverFlow® spout delivers a fast-flow of clean drinking water for chugging, filling hydration reservoirs and other bottles. Sometimes, it’s the little things. Ever find a water source off the base of a bluff or running under a bridge but still need to get water for drinking? These can be tough to get to. Always try to collect flowing water for filtering – the faster, the better. Fast-flowing water has less dirt and sediment in it.

Even if you don’t use the Grayl UltraPress regularly, you should still change the filter after three years, when it reaches the end of its shelf life. Using the filter after this time may prove ineffective. The GeoPress always felt bulky. Unless you’ve got hands like Dwayne Johnson, it feels super chunky, like you’re a child stealing from your parent’s flask. It’s not physically hard or uncomfortable to hold, it just doesn’t feel right. UltraPress now has a boost! All bottles ship with a One-Way Valve pre-installed making it possible to add electrolytes, drink mixes and other flavored liquids directly into an UltraPress.

Filters particulates (sediment, microplastics). Ultra-powdered activated carbon adsorbs many chemicals (including PFAS & VOCs), pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, flavors and odors. Materials: Made from BPA-FREE polypropylene #5, food-grade silicone, TPE and ABS food-grade plastic. All of the water from the outer cup has passed through the filter and is now inside the inner core. Open that top cap and enjoy. Paracord D-Ring (Photo/Josh Kirchner)If you know you’ll have frequent water sources, why not carry a lighter bottle? In our opinion, a filter bottle should never be your only water storage, as you should carry another bottle or bladder for storing purified water. Overall, the size and weight of the Grayl UltraPress are slightly off-putting but the advantages of the bottle outweigh this slight nuisance!

Of course, with normal use, the UltraPress “press time” will be longer as the filter gets dirty and clogged with debris. Generally speaking though, the UltraPress pressing-action is smoother and faster than my previous experiences with the Ultralight model and more closely reflects the user experience of the GeoPress. UltraPress vs GeoPress Performance? Grayl’s UltraPress is significantly smaller than the GeoPress. The 2.5cm difference in height might not sound like a lot but it’s instantly noticeable. The GeoPress can purify 700ml of water in around 8 seconds when the bottle is new. The UltraPress takes close to 10 seconds to purify 500ml of water. Over time, both bottles will slow as the filters begin to clog up. When it takes around 25 seconds to purify one bottle’s worth of water, it’s time to replace the filter. Ultra-powdered activated carbon filters particulates (sediment, microplastics) and adsorbs many chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, VOCs, flavors and odors.

I’ve judged the performance of the Grayl UltraPress on how effectively it removes contaminants, and for how long. Based on these factors, the Grayl bottle offers high-quality, reliable performance.
