About this deal

The JVC Fire TV 43” Smart TV features a 4K Ultra HD resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. This means that the TV can produce stunningly vivid and lifelike images rich in detail, contrast, and color. The HDR technology ensures that even a scene’s darkest and brightest parts are accurately reproduced, resulting in a more realistic viewing experience. HDMI Audio Return Channel, or HDMI ARC, is a feature that allows soundbars and surround sound systems to operate with fewer cables. A single HDMI cable (1.4 or higher) is connected from a TV’s HDMI ARC to an HDMI ARC port on a soundbar or surround sound receiver. This connection will deliver audio from another device connected to the TV through the soundbar - a gaming console, Blu-ray player, or media streaming device. Of these two 'dynamic' HDR formats, Dolby Vision is by far the most prevalent, both in terms of TVs and content, and if you have to choose between one and the other, that's the one we'd recommend. That said, you can now buy TVs from the likes of Philips and Panasonic that support both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The LG C1 was our favourite TV of 2021 and its successor improves on it in just about every way. It houses four HDMI 2.1 ports, with each one supporting 4k@120Hz, Auto Low Latency Mode and Variable Refresh Rate in the form of Nvidia G-Sync and AMD Freesync. Input lag is extremely low and LG’s Game Optimiser remains a great way of getting the best experience from your next-gen console or PC. The hub has been expanded this year, with new settings including a Dark Room mode and a picture setting for sports games. If you’re spending a decent chunk of your hard-earned money on a new television, it’s prudent to try and secure the longest warranty possible. This will ensure that youwill be covered in the event of anything going wrong with the set. Most retailers typically offer at least a one-year warranty, which tends to fall in line with the warranty offered by manufacturers. John Lewis is a little different, however, and provides a five-year guarantee on all of the TVs it sells.

Our testing measures contrast and maximum brightness, as well as lag time. Using a Leo Bodnar Video Signal Input Lag Tester to test video signal delay, we time how long it takes for content to travel from the original video source to the screen, measured to the millisecond. Shorter response times equate with faster gaming performance, letting us objectively know which TVs are better for gaming. Currently, three HDMI connections is standard on budget and mid-range TVs, while four is the norm for premium models. Overall, the Cello ZG0234 43″ Smart Android TV is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a high-quality television with a wide range of features. The TV’s smart Android TV platform provides easy access to a variety of streaming services, while the built-in Google Chromecast and Google Assistant add to the TV’s functionality. The TV’s sleek design and intuitive remote control make it easy to use, and the Freeview Play feature ensures that you can catch up on missed shows and record programs for later viewing.

Terms & Conditions

If you're buying a TV below 32 inches and can save a lot of money on a Full HD model, by all means go for it (4K won't be a huge benefit at that sort of size anyway), but otherwise 4K is both worthwhile and, in all likelihood, your only option. Should you buy an HDR TV? Testing a TV is a long and complex process because a modern TV simply does so much. Not only does it need to handle a variety of content resolutions – standard-def, 1080p, 4K and sometimes 8K – and both standard dynamic range and high dynamic range (the latter in a number of formats), all of which need to be specifically tested, it also has a sound system with various advanced settings and a full smart platform. A TV is an all-in-one device in the best sense, but that also makes it a challenging review proposition. The A95K is powered by Sony’s advanced Cognitive XR processor and its picture processing is some of the best around. Compression artefacts and noise are reduced to an incredible degree, and upscaling of non-4K content is remarkably effective. Motion handling is equally impressive and these qualities all add up to what is a nuanced and captivating watch regardless of what content you’re consuming. Top-notch picture performance is complemented by excellent audio courtesy of Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology, which transforms the TV’s panel into a speaker. The Hisense 43E7HQTUK QLED Gaming Series 43-inch 4K UHD Dolby Vision HDR Smart TV is a top-of-the-line television with stunning picture quality. Its features are ideal for gamers and movie enthusiasts alike. This TV offers a sleek design and advanced features that will impress. Sound quality is a little disappointing given that this is LG’s flagship 4K TV, and you’ll have to pay extra for a stand if you don’t want to wall mount it as there’s not one included, but otherwise, this mighty MLA-powered is hard to fault and one of the best televisions we’ve seen years.

Best TV brands | Best Samsung TVs | Best TCL TVs | Best LG TVs | Best Roku TVs | Best OLED TVs | Best QLED TVs | Best 8K TVs Samsung's image processing makes it look refined and impressive cinematic, and the eight speakers built into it means it'll sound far better than the competition here, and you may not need to add a soundbar for clear audio. All of this does mean its the most expensive option here, though. What's the difference between OLED vs QLED? You've likely encountered these tech terms while scouring the web for a new TV, but understanding the key differences between them isn't always easy. Overall, the Philips 43PUS7906/12 43-Inch 4K LED TV is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a TV with advanced features and stunning picture quality. The TV’s 4K resolution and HDR10+ technology ensure crystal clear images, while Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos provide a high-quality audio experience. The Smart TV platform provides easy access to a wide range of streaming services, while the sleek design and range of connectivity options make it a practical and stylish choice for any home.

The JVC Fire TV 43” Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV with FreeviewPlay is an excellent choice for those seeking an immersive viewing experience. This television offers top-notch picture quality, numerous features, and easy connectivity to a range of devices. Gaming performance was another plus point for the Omni QLED. It did a great job of handling graphically intense moments, with smooth motion processing and minimal delay thanks to its low 10ms input lag time. The picture quality delivered was crisp as well, thanks to Dolby Vision gaming support. However, it sadly doesn't have 4K 120Hz support, but this is not something you get in TVs at this price range anyway.

The best TVs to buy in 2023

We've also seen increased production of 42-inch TVs in recent years, with TV brand LG bringing out 42-inch OLED TVs, like the LG OLED42C2 at the top of this guide. Every new TV receives Freeview, but the majority now include Freeview HD tuners, too. This is the easiest way to watch HD broadcasts because you can use your existing digital aerial without having to buy any additional equipment. Resolution refers to the number of pixels on a display, the greater the pixels, the sharper the image. A 4K display has 3840 x 2160 pixels, regardless of whether that's a 43-inch TV or a 65-inch TV. This is a brilliantly detailed and sharp performance, too, and Sony's processing includes a feature that automatically enhances the depth of the image, resulting in excellent solidity and three-dimensionality. On the subject of processing, Sony's motion-handling is still peerless, smoothing panning shots and fast action without introducing any unnaturalism. The Sony A95K OLED is a fantastic QD-OLED TV. It's better for a home theater setup than the Samsung S90C OLED as it supports Dolby Vision and advanced audio formats like DTS and has better image processing than the Hisense U8/U8K. However, it's significantly more expensive than either and isn't worth the price difference for most people.
