About this deal

Ramona and Her Mother: Through misunderstandings, mistakes and miscommunications, Ramona’s relationship with her mother is tested, allowing you to explore the bond between mother and daughter. In 1955, after finishing three Henry books, Cleary wrote Beezus and Ramona, a novel in which Beezus was the central character. The plot revolved around fourth grade Beezus' frustrations with her younger sister. Then in 1968, having concluded the Henry Huggins series, Cleary returned to focus on the two sisters in Ramona the Pest. It became the foundation book of the Ramona series. As publisher, writer and reviewer Anita Silvey says, "It was almost inevitable that Cleary would publish a series of books about this boisterous yet appealing character." [2] In a Battle of the Brats, my son couldn't decide whether Fudge or Ramona would win. I, however, thought Ramona the true champion. But she is hilarious. And actually, I started to admire her when she gives the excuse, "Because I wanted to see what would happen." Usually in books it is the boys who are scamps, but Beverly Clearly makes a little girl about as naughty and mischievous as possible. She was ahead of her time. Throughout the book, you will encounter the many adventures and misadventures of Beezus and Ramona. You’ll be amused by the hilarious antics of Ramona, who’s a lovable, imaginative, and energetic younger sibling. Ramona and Her Father: When Mr. Quimby loses his job, the entire family faces challenges, including Ramona. This story grapples with serious themes while maintaining its lovable charm.

Ramona Geraldine Quimby: The main character. She has straight, short brown hair and an active imagination. Her middle name is Geraldine. In “Beezus and Ramona,” you’ll discover a charming story of sisterhood and family dynamics in a fictional setting. The book follows the everyday life of nine-year-old Beezus and her four-year-old sister, Ramona. You’ll relate to the love and connection between these two sisters despite their differences. The book follows the story of nine-year-old Beezus Quimby and her lively four-year-old sister Ramona. As you read, you’ll find that the reading level is appropriate for children aged 7 and up, with a GRL (Guided Reading Level) of O, a DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) level of 34, and a Lexile measure of 780 L. The language used in the story is accessible for young readers, with only mild sass, such as the use of the word “dumb.” Beezus could not help feeling annoyed. Miss Robbins was letting Ramona stay in the class—the one place where she was never allowed to tag along! Miss Robbins would probably like her painting, because it would be so full of imagination. Ramona’s pictures, in fact, were so full of imagination that it took even more imagination to tell what they were.

Susan Kushner: Ramona's former rival, who seemed perfect and was revealed to be boring. Ramona was very tempted to pull her reddish-brown curls in kindergarten to make them bounce. Generally critics have been positive about all the Ramona books, pointing out the pleasure readers derive from watching Ramona grow up in the series. "Cleary outlines Ramona's joys and sorrows in a manner considered both poignant and hilarious" [1] In Twentieth-Century Children's Writers, Cathryn Mercier praises Cleary's accomplishments through the series as a whole. "Through Ramona, Cleary touches young readers on an emotional level which engages and challenges, but does not overwhelm. Her ability to sustain their attention over time, from book to book, remains an accomplishment beyond evaluation." [1] Association, Mark Stewart, UW Alumni. "September 2008 Columns Magazine Feature: Beverly Cleary: Kids Like Us". {{ cite web}}: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list ( link) Throughout the book, Cleary subtly paints an alternative picture of sisterhood in the happy relationship between Beezus's mother and her sister Beatrice (the aunt after whom Beezus was named). Beezus adores her Aunt Beatrice--she's a young, pretty, jovial schoolteacher that drives a yellow convertible; what's not to love? The Lexile level of “Beezus and Ramona” by Beverly Cleary is approximately 830L. The Lexile level is a measure of text complexity that takes into account both the difficulty of the vocabulary and the sentence structure. A Lexile level of 830L indicates that the book is suitable for readers in the upper elementary grades, typically around grades 3 to 5. Beezus And Ramona Guided Reading Level (GRL)

Howie Kemp: Ramona's friend who loves building things. He becomes Ramona's cousin in Ramona Forever when his Uncle Hobart marries her Aunt Beatrice. He never gets excited about anything, which really makes Ramona disappointed.Reading the series all at once also makes her process of growing up more clear; learning how to get along with her sister, her parents, figuring out her teachers and struggling with classroom behavior -- it really is a joy to watch her grow from a pesky toddler scribbling in library books to a 'zero-teen' year old being trusted to watch her baby sister on her own. Two books in the series were named Newbery Honor books, Ramona and Her Father and Ramona Quimby, Age 8; Ramona and Her Mother received the National Book Award. Sometimes known as the Beezus and Ramona series. Yet, without a nostalgic connection to the Ramona books (I myself never read them as a child), I am not sure I would enthusiastically suggest them to my own children. I read them largely due to an article ( https://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/20...) about the "quiet Christianity" of Ramona's world. Though it is true that cultural Christianity--with its accompanying moral guidance--is assumed for the Quimbys, an adult reader I see through the seemingly timeless quality of the books to the undercurrents of the times when they were written, and it weakens my appreciation for them. Beezus and Ramona is the first book in the Ramona Quimby series, which follows the entertaining, slice-of-life adventures of the Quimby family. Throughout the series, your child will find themself immersed in the ups and downs of growing up, along with themes of sibling relationships, school, and family dynamics. Here’s a glimpse of the series: Ramona the Brave: Ramona faces fears big and small and proves that she is indeed brave. Journey along with her as she navigates a new school and discovers her inner strength.
