Whenever you use the MV7, your voice will remain front and centre at all times. Shure know just how important a clear and intelligible vocal is (they are one of the biggest names in the microphone world for a reason), so a highly directional dynamic design and voice isolation tech have both been incorporated. If you needed a pro-level dynamic mic, you'd go buy yourself an SM7B. Simples.
No love for the MV7 then? Not at all, but we believe Shure's spot on when it describes it as a ' podcast microphone, inspired by the legendary SM7B'. The MV7 is small, light, comparatively inexpensive and has a tonal fingerprint that's been developed specifically to bring clarity to the spoken voice. At a push it can be used to record sung vocals or guitar cabs and other loud instruments but, frankly, the SM7B is a better choice for these applications. Use the monitor mix slider to adjust how much of each source you can hear. For best results, start monitoring at the midpoint and adjust. That's not all though; a series of other helpful systems ensure you get the best audio possible. Auto Level Mode will set your gain and compression in real-time. This means that your output levels will remain balanced while you work. Gone are the time-consuming tweaks and alterations! This is augmented further by automatic adjustment of your audio levels - making sure that your voice and its volume stays the same without fluctuations. Custom Audio Or is the MV7 little more than a cheaper, second-rate SM7B with a few additional fancy bells and whistles? Yes, it was shrewd of Shure to model the MV7's appearance on the SM7B but it’s way more capable than a lookie-likey budget mic.
Auto Level Mode / Manual Mode AUTO LEVEL mode allows the app to select best choices for your recording needs. Or select MANUAL mode for full control over the microphone settings. What impressed us about the Shure MV7 was the fact it aims to do two things, and it achieves them both successfully. For less tech-savvy users, the MOTIV app and ease-of-use you get from the USB connection is ideal. It works in exactly the way you’d want it to, and is as simple as it gets thanks to helpful tools like the auto-level mode and voice isolation technology. Put simply, if you’ve got a voice it’ll sound great through the MV7. Consequently, they don't paint as accurate a picture as a condenser microphone will, a trait that seems undesirable but can be a distinct advantage. Hiss, hum, rumble and other sonic nasties sit at these extremes, which is why this pair of Shure mics have such an unrivalled reputation for rejecting ambient noise. The SM7B is a simple mic with few controls other than a switchable bass rolloff filter and presence boost. Its unusual tubular shape - half windshield, half metal body - is unique. No other mic looks like the iconic SM7B.
