About this deal

Need to know: Rubber pads to prevent sliding; five-year warranty; also available in 48 and 60-litre sizes; other colours available Gets lovely and cold inside, only took 15 minutes plugged into the mains, and the capacity is fantastic Thermoelectric cool box – these are well insulated coolboxes which use a Peltier cooler (12V or 240V powered usually) and electric fan to drive heat out of the box and keep your food and drink chilled. The best thermoelectric coolboxes can lower the temperature by about 30°C below the ambient temperature which means they can be used all year round in the UK. Downsides are fan noise, but in a tent you’re unlikely to hear it. The cooler can be easily switched between hot and cold settings, making it perfect for keeping your cold drinks icy cold or maintaining the temperature of hot food. It also comes with an integrated handle for easy transportation, making it ideal for long days in the great outdoors!

You This product is capacious and well made. However when you first use the cooler, you must let it run empty for 24 hour on its high setting so tht the refrigeration gases can settle down and do their job. Don’t not panic if it doesn’t seem cool enough for the first 8 to 12 hours. It will then become very cool and preserve the food ie milk, butter, yoghurt etc. But like any refrigeration (i know it is not a refrigerator), it needs to be left on and empty for 24 hours initially then it works very well. Date tested: May 2023. Capacity: measured with 330ml soft drink cans. We are not able to show every retailer and cheaper prices may be available. The electric cool boxes we tested We tested passive cool boxes and electric cool boxes from major UK retailers and brands. We bought every product we tested, so you can be sure our opinion isn't biased by us receiving freebies. InsulationAlthough at Camping Secrets we always try to offer value-for-money recommendations on gear, the truth is that sometimes it’s worth buying from a reputable manufacturer – we’ve found that this is especially true for powered items. You may pay slightly more than the cheapest Chinese imports (which can often be built in the same factory!), but you get peace of mind that the company will stand behind their product. In our opinion, no electric cooler combines greater simplicity, affordability, and efficiency than the Outdoor Revolution Eco Deep Extreme. This is a full-on compressor-based fridge which also has a separate freezer section which can keep ice cream frozen! Yes it’s an expensive cool box, but really delivers the goods in our view. The ECO Deep Extreme has several different capacity options in the range. The coolers start at a ‘car-friendly’ 26 litre capacity up to our favourite in the range shown above – the 45 litre giant which has its own carry handle and wheels to help move it around. We’ll concentrate on that one for this review. The advantage of a compressor fridge (i.e. like one you would use at home in your kitchen) is the speed, controllability and power of the cooling on offer. With the Eco Deep Extreme, you can lower the internal temperature from 25°C to 0°C in just 19 minutes which is exceptional. As mentioned previously, you can then disconnect the power so that the insulation is put to work and your food can remains frozen for several hours without using any more juice. One other great feature of the cool box is how it manages to protect the car’s battery from completely running out of juice; it stops drawing current if it senses that your car battery is about to go kaput! Handy when you’re wild camping miles from anywhere.

Rab Berghaus Craghoppers Montane adidas Terrex Regatta Scarpa Merrell Mountain Equipment OEX Salomon Weird Fish Dare 2b Once you're done with your outdoor feast, the cooler is simple to wipe clean and store away until the next adventure. The cheapest cool box in our recommendation is the HI-GEAR 20L Cooler. It is another 12V only system which can cool food and drinks to around the 10°C mark. For the money, it’s excellent value and has a few extra little design touches we like. Outwell have taken particular care with antimicrobial coatings on the EcoCool, and in fact it has been treated with a biocidal glass coating inside – this is a special glass which has bug-killing properties and is a real selling point in our view. Hot to trot? Holidaying with a large group, or throwing a big garden party? In this case, a cool box will likely meet your needs better than a cooler bag. This spacious 45-litre electric cooler is the perfect piece of kit when you’re throwing a picnic for the whole family. It’s capable of keeping your food and drinks up to 18 degrees below ambient temperature. It also comes with an integrated trolley handle and wheels for easy carrying and pulling, so you won’t face a struggle getting it from your car to the perfect picnic spot. Once you’re finished, the cooler is easy to wipe clean and store away for your next outdoor feast. Date tested: June 2021 and May 2023. Capacity: measured with 330ml soft drink cans.
