About this deal

If you want a hair dryer that won’t break the bank, then chances are you’ve come across the Remington Shine Therapy hair dryer. Launched in 2016, the Shine Therapy range comprises this 2300W hair dryer and a pair of conditioning hair straighteners, both of which claim to use ionic technology to boost hair shine and keep it looking healthy.

Revamp Progloss Liberate Cordless Ceramic Compact Hair Straightener ST-1700: The best compact straighteners The floating plates (set on springs) ensure an even pressure and grip on the hair, helping it to pass through the tool smoothly. There are nine heat settings that make it easy to select the correct heat for your hair type and texture. It’s also easy to switch between temperatures, so you can use a recommended 180°C for the bulk of the hair and a cooler setting for the thinner, more fragile front sections. The straighteners heat up in just 15 seconds and feature automatic switch-off after one hour. You won’t need to worry about noise for long, though, because this hair dryer dries your hair fast. It blows out air at 18m/s, which, although around 10m/s slower than the fastest hair dryer we’ve tested, felt super-speedy. I used the highest speed and temperature settings, without a concentrator, to rough dry my hair, before blow-drying using a round brush. At this point, I added a concentrator and opted for a slower speed for controlled styling. The Contouring Iron also comes equipped with an impressive temperature range, with 11 temperature settings between 100°C and 200°C. There’s also a “Revive” mode, which fixes the temperature at 150°C, but uses micro-vibrations in the plates during styling to help create longer-lasting styles, despite the low heat. This is a step up from the Cloud Nine Original Iron, featured above, and worked remarkably well in our testing. There’s no getting around the fact that this is an expensive curling iron, but it’s the perfect all-in-one styler for those willing to splash out. Thankfully, there are two other temperature settings available, although this will increase the drying time. Nevertheless, the mid-temperature is plenty hot enough to dry hair, while the lowest setting feels a little too cold. In fact, this setting feels remarkably similar to the temperature of the cool-shot setting, which is more temperate than actively cold. It also took at least 10 seconds for the cool-shot button to reduce the temperature of the airflow from the higher heat setting. This is typical for budget hair dryers, too, but shouldn’t be an issue for those who are patient. That being said, the Remington Shine Therapy hair dryer comes with a few notable extras that make it more practical to use. For example, it has a removable grille for easy cleaning, as well as a hang-up loop for those who want their hair dryer to be easy to access at all times. A minor letdown is the length of the cord. At 1.8m, it’s plenty long enough for domestic use, and while a dryer at this price is unlikely to be found in salons, the cord isn’t quite long enough to offer complete freedom when styling someone else’s hair. You don't have permission to access "http://www.argos.co.uk/browse/health-and-beauty/hair-care/hair-straighteners/c:29236/brands:remington/" on this server. Straightening tools that use tourmaline plates can achieve optimum results at lower temperatures, so if you straighten your hair often you may want to consider spending a little more on a tool that can be used effectively on cooler settings. This will result in less heat damage. The styling head itself is longer than most at 100mm, with rounded edges that allow easy curling and waving as well as straightening if you like to switch up your style. The Smoothstay is light in the hand and in your handbag at 410g, making it perfect to carry with you for styling touch-ups between work and play. For the price, Revlon’s Smoothstay delivers very good results and leaves hair shiny and frizz-free.

Remington Shine Therapy Wide Plate Ceramic Hair Straighteners

Size-wise, it’s just 22cm long and weighs 300g, which is substantially lighter than the Dyson Corrale at 561g. This makes it much easier to toss into a tote bag and carry around with you out and about. As a result of its compact size, the heated plates here are slightly narrower than average, but the “floating” spring mounts adjust to the contours of your hair, allowing the straighteners to effortlessly glide over sections of hair without any tugging or snagging. This will reduce the time it takes to style your hair, and means that the Unplugged’s 20-minute battery life will go further than you think. Beauty heavyweight Revlon offers a simple but good-value option in these straightening irons. The ceramic coating on the floating heating plates is infused with moisturising coconut oil, paired with ionic technology to maintain hydration in the hair shaft and discourage frizz and flyaways.Variable Temperature Settings - ten different temperature settings, ranging from 150°C to 235°C allow you to tailor the heat to suit your individual hair type - and heating up in just 15 seconds, you won't be waiting around. This Remington hair straightener cares for the hair while it straightens. This helps some way towards avoiding damage from the high heat a straightening iron can do to the tresses. With the S8500 Shine Therapy flat iron, the plates are infused with Argan Oil and Vitamin E. These are known for their shiny properties, and leave the hair gleaming. A Remington straightening iron that equally protects the hair is the Keratin Therapy Pro. Fast Heat Up Technology Prior to testing the Shine Therapy hair dryer, I shampooed and conditioned my hair, and then spritzed on a heat protection spray. Although not completely necessary when using a hair dryer, unlike when using heat-styling tools such as straighteners, using a heat protection spray is wise if you regularly heat style hair, or if your hair is damaged. Don’t apply it too liberally, though, since spraying on too much will weigh down the hair and make it feel greasier faster.

They come with adjustable heat control, so you can select the right temperature for your hair texture, from 165ºC to 210ºC.
