About this deal

As for the residual charge, any kind of load should eat the voltage (such as a light bulb, but just make sure a resistor is used to drop the voltage so that the bulb won't be blown out).

This is not spam, but a warning. PVC will fail suddenly after a while. This was band member that hurt badly by a T-Shirt launcher explosion. AFTER a few hours, the glue should be fully set. It only takes a couple minutes for the glue to hold, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious. I usually wait a full day just in case. Do NOT use the launcher in the cold. PVC becomes brittle when it gets cold, and it does not fail in a graceful way.I have clearly neglected this post in the 4+ years since I originally wrote it. Parts, prices, and availability have changed since then. I always knew this was likely to happen, but I figured it would be more useful for a time than not. I was operating the device in about 10 degrees Celsius (50 F) and had successfully launched it about a dozen times with 40psi charges, which resulted in flights over 200 feet. If you're doing an event for a bunch of people, then having some nose cone and fin templates printed out ahead of time really helps out.

First and most important - why trying to figure this out: Don't put your face in front of the launch tube. There is no valuable debugging information to be gained by doing that, and you can lose and eye!Our Scout group had one of these lying around, which I very happily inherited and started playing with immediately. Of course, I tried to break it, which I did. Insert your threaded connections all the way and glue them in place to ensure that the desired alignment/angles/seal is achievable once glued. Twist the parts as you insert them. This really does help to ensure that everything is evenly glued. Just make sure they're pointed in the right direction when you're done. The glue does not take long to dry. Hold the parts together for about 10-20 second - they will try to push apart! After that the parts should be pretty solid, but hold off on high pressure for a day.

I found most of the parts at Lowe's. With the exception of the Tee connectors and the SCH80 nipples, everything else was available at Home Depot as well. inch pressure PVC turned out to be the best size, and it really works well. The parts are easy to find and the pressure rating far exceeds what the kids can pump the systems to. Hold the pieces together firmly for 10 seconds while the glue sets. If you don't hold the pieces pushed together, they will push apart! Low volume launchers are much more compact but require higher pressure to achieve the same altitude as the high volume launchers. Only issue is the 9v battery life. With 3 batteries in series from my test it only lasted for a day (4 hours). That can get pretty expensive considering. After gluing the second elbow to the Tee, I pushed the "mouths" of the elbows flat onto the table to try to get them as parallel as possible. If they aren't parallel, it will be very hard to fit this Tee assembly onto the rest of the launch tube. Don't forget to sand about an inch on one side of the launch tube, and then sand the inside of the 3/4 inch to 1/2 inch connector.
