About this deal

In this midnight age, the dying embers of humanity are threatened on all sides by the hungry darkness. Alone, even the Lion has no hope of prevailing against such evil – but there are those who would aid him in his quest. Hunted to the edge of endurance, many among his Fallen knights have long-awaited the day their liege would return to redeem them. The Lord of Shadowed Paths must gather these lost loyalists to his side once more, and stride forth to vanquish a traitorous son and the twisted Chaos warband that calls him master. He didn't see "the futility of his efforts", he saw that he's made the wrong efforts altogether and might have inadvertedly caused this outcome. He wasn't angry at his brothers - not even Russ, really - but himself. Aborted Arc: Early in the book, the Lion and Zabriel stumble upon the Thousand Eyes experimenting on captured space marines, and Baelor's first two point-of-view chapters mention that Seraphax has been trying to forcibly trigger the Blood Angel's Red Thirst. As soon as the Thousand Eyes learn about the Lion's survival, this plot is abandoned as Seraphax changes his plans to account for the sudden appearance of a Primarch.

The Lion learned to trust through Imperium Secondus and Ruinstorm. They all but go skipping off into the sunset hand-in-hand. But he was hurt afterwards - he saw the futility of his efforts. Terra fell, the Emperor died because people he trusted and relied upon couldn't get the job done. If they had been more ruthless, more ready to make sacrifices, more Lion-like, maybe the day could have been saved.... The massive Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer is an armoured beast , mounting a triple-barrelled neutron laser battery onto a rugged Spartan hull to create a devastatingly focused anti-tank weapon. It can detonate tanks in a single blast while shrugging off return fire like it’s nothing – everything you want in a Lord of War. Sicaran Venator Tank HunterCombat Pragmatist: Unlike the Thousand Eyes, who issue formal challenges and try to have individual duels, the Lion's Fallen absolutely fight dirty and do not much care for notions of honor and glory. Lohoc's insistence on never showing his face is called out as strange multiple times, but the book ultimately ends without explaining it.

Bevedan was part of the group that opened fire on the Lion's forces on Caliban, starting the battle that saw the planet destroyed; he sacrifices himself to free the Lion from Seraphax's chains.I normally preface any review of IP-based genre fiction with some too cool for school stuff about them being a guilty pleasure, a palate cleanser, basically rubbish but occassionally fun. Technique is deployed very well too, and in a way that advances the characters. The Lion's portions are told in the third-person present, showing his dynamism and focus, but also how he wants to The Lion awakens in Imperium Nihilus, the side of the galaxy cut off from the Emperor’s light and often represented as the grimest of grimdark (see Sons of the Hydra and Spear of the Emperor). With the Imperium shattered as an organization, we follow the Lion’s gradual reintegration into the broader picture, as the scope of the narrative steadily widens from single combat to system-wide void war. This unexpectedly makes Son of the Forest an excellent introduction to the universe; as the Lion learns, so too do we readers. Affably Evil: Baelor and Seraphax are both extremely polite to their brothers, even as they try to kill them.

The perspective in the books shifts between the Lion, a Terran veteran of the Legion and a wonderfully portrayed Chaos Space Marine warband. His Lion gradually comes into himself as the book progresses and the way his relationships develop with the supporting characters is interesting. Zabriel is a great character, like the Lion stranded out of time and forced by circumstance to be self-reliant it feels like the majority of the book is told in his words and I enjoyed being in his company. The various corrupted Space Marines we meet range in their devotion to the dark Gods and depravity but all drip with charisma and personality- interestingly they’re notably different from the Alpha Legionaries featured in Brooks’ Harrowmaster. Throughout the book are some of the most interesting depictions of relationships between Space Marines that I can recall reading, there is rivalry, antagonism and distrust but also genuine bonds of friendship and tenderness if not outright homoeroticism. Zabriel and Baelor are both devoted Number Twos to their respective masters, but Zabriel is initially distrustful of the Lion before coming to respect him, while Baelor is utterly devoted to Seraphax before betraying him at the very end. It's not until the end of the book that the Lion learns that Roboute Guilliman is not only alive, but leading the Imperium. The Fallen fight the Thousand Eyes and Markog while Lion pursues Seraphax. This turns out to be part of Seraphax's plan, as he manages to trap Lion in magic chains (forged from the iron from the blood of Sable's butchered populace). He explains his scheme: he's going to remove Lion's soul from his body, turn what remains into his own meat puppet, and have it go to Terra, gain an audience with the Emperor, and kill him so that he becomes the next Warp god (his original plan called for just "some hero of the Imperium", but Lion is an unexpected boon). This disturbs the also-present Baelor. For the best viewing experience, we recommend using old reddit version - https://old.reddit.com/r/40kLore/Brooks getting the writing job for Lion El'Johnson's 40k return novel reassures me this is going to be a ripping read, based off his previous work: Retrocede y se encamina por nuevos lugares, puede que la realidad que vive no sea como la recuerda.
