About this deal

Leigh Fletcher travels a lot for her job keeping her away from her husband and two stepsons quite often. I find this has the same thriller level and straightforward plot, but it's less painfully written and less stupid. The biggest being the main twist (really the only twist since the other one is predictable) happened in the first 25% of the book, which really killed the suspense.

Once the different individuals became clearer, I found this helped add to the clues of the disappearances. Adele Parks, the writing phenomenon who now has twenty-one superb novels to her name in as many years, proves that she deserves every accolade which comes her way with this gripping and brilliantly observed exploration of the corrosive secrets that lie behind not just closed doors but the relationships that are the bedrock of family life.

The story is told from multiple points of view but the primary weight of the backstories and plots are delivered from Leigh and Kai.

I think Parks did an excellent job of inhabiting the voices of each of her key leads, along with the support cast. I thought it was going to be another psychological thriller that I would anticipate the twists and turns…I was wrong. As an Ambassador for The Reading Agency’s Six Book challenge, the author is very passionate about reading. When Adele isn’t creating fiction, she can be found contributing articles and short stories to magazines and newspapers. Definitely complex to begin with, as I was somewhat confused by the two parallel threads about Leigh and Kai.

But as the story continued and pennies began to drop, I really got into the story and couldn't put it down. Although that was a bit harsh, I didn't really care, because Kaileigh was a selfish twat who caused a lot of damage. The elements that were actually thrilling were when you're able to predict what's going to happen next. The twist was not unexpected for me, since I’ve wondered about everyone, but I was still pleasantly surprised by the motive and how it made sense based on the persons frame of mind. A sleek tale and a clear example of an upscale read in the domestic mystery field, Both of You is another champion story from Adele Parks. With her university days behind her, she eventually went into advertising and then management consultation.

After pretending to "rescue" her from the room she was imprisoned in, Fiona brings Kaileigh to her beach house, gets her drunk and then shoves her off a cliff. Detective Clements starts her investigation and then learns of another woman, Kai Janssen, who’s gone missing, reported by her wealthy Dutch husband, Daan. She finds she has two choices: hide away behind the school runs and home baking or have amazing sex with an inappropriate stranger. When Detective Clements is assigned to the case, hope fades as this seasoned detective knows that the likelihood of finding these women alive is very slim. Investigating both cases is DC Clements who knows that people disappear all the time… someone is reported missing every ninety seconds. But after that there is just this abrupt end with a few lines about how Fiona had set Daan up to take the fall for Kaileigh's murder and plans to step into her shoes as Mrs. Adele contends that women are very complex human beings and any book that aims to explore their lives, loves, and friendships should be treated with some respect. This was definitely a different twist on the usual domestic thriller, and I liked it, despite many flaws and a WTF? I can't say too much without giving the plot away, but what I really liked about this is it's originality. I wish to thank Harlequin Australia for providing me with a free copy of this book for review purposes.
