Towards the end I just wanted some time with Alex learning another summoning spell, instead we get my mortal enemy: a shifting perspective. Alex and his cabal go back to his homeland on the expedition to discover more about the uses of dungeon cores.Remembering details about people made them more friendly to your cause; it was just one of the tricks he’d picked up in the last four years of hustling together every coin he could. And because we've forgotten about our original premise, without the context in which it fits (the other marks) the whole "fool's mark" concept just turns into a very dubious convenience. On the positive side, I think the dark hints about the motivations of the church, and perhaps the god, are exciting foreshadowing for the remainder of the series.

Believable characters are not so 1 dimensional, they change over time and hopefully grow for the better. She only knows what she's learned from others during her journey, so she doesn't pick up on any deep lore. He’ll make lifelong friends, learn magic from mad wizards, practice alchemy, fight mana vampires and try to pay tuition. This fire had reduced an enormous demon—a slaver and tormenter of mortals from across the planes—to a column of ash.Overall still really enjoyed this book and looking forward to the next but it’s my least favourite so far. Clarke needs to get them involved in the plotline quickly, so he does a really quick once over on character development. This is probably a fun read for many people and if it sounds interesting to you, then I'd recommend giving it a shot.

Once again the Knight has the choice to either save him or leave him, though this time leaving him does not result in his death. By now, he could feel the staff’s energies beginning to wane, but he wouldn’t need them for much longer.
