About this deal

Leaving behind the tick’s mouth parts may result in a localised infection, which in severe cases can lead to abscesses and even septicaemia. One of the more dangerous ticks lurking on the continent is the brown dog tick ( Rhipicephalus sanguineus), which at present is non-native to the UK.

How to remove easily Ticks : TICK TWISTER®

Why is there sometimes a small swelling, even after removing the tick entirely with TICK TWISTER ® ? The best way to dispose of the tick is to place it in a tissue and squash it between the tissue, ensuring no fluid touches your hands.Do not twist or jerk the tick as this may leave its mouth parts embedded, or cause it to regurgitate disease-causing fluids.

How to use Tick Twister

Blunt-nosed tweezers (like the ones used to pluck eyebrows) are too broad and are more likely to squeeze the body of the tick. The best way to dispose of it is to place it in a tissue and squash it between the tissue, ensuring no fluid touches your hands. Fine-tipped tweezers should be used as they are slim enough to get close to the tick’s mouth parts without coming into contact with the body of the tick, which avoids compressing it.A further tick-related risk is travel – both UK-based animals travelling abroad and those from overseas arriving on UK shores and potentially bringing with them a brand new species of tick.

There is the large for afull-grown adult tick, the small for a regular sized adult tick and the brand-new micro which can be used to remove larva and nymph. Compressing the tick’s body or causing injury or irritation to the tick may cause fluids (its saliva and gut contents) to be regurgitated back into the bloodstream of its host (the person or animal it’s attached to). Do not handle the tick with bare hands, because certain disease-causing organisms may enter through breaks in the skin, or through mucous membranes (if you touch eyes, nostrils or mouth). It has been reported that a nymph will begin to transfer bacteria in under 24 hours from the first latch (Institute Pasteur, 2018).

These tiny little parasitic arachnids are 3 to 5mm in length depending on age, species, sex and how full they are ( Figure 1). At this stage the human resources of the small company amounted to Hélène and Denis HEITZ, aided by two home-based workers to package the products. Once the temperature is above 4°C a tick can become active and with a warming climate, there are heightening tickborne pathogen disease risks in the UK and Europe (Loeb, 2021).
